Park and Walk Day

On Thursday, many of the Meerkats participated in the Travelwise Park and Walk Day. Many of us met at the park down the road and a few more met at the church, near the BP. We walked in a big group and even though it was raining we had a great walk together. We even got some hot chocolate for all of our work. Have a look at all the Meerkats who participated:

Making One With Fractions

For the last two days we've been learning how to make one with different fractions. We used the iPads to take pictures of our work. Have a look at what two of our groups did today:

Hazelnut and Luna Arrive in New Zealand

The Marvellous Meerkats are taking part in the Travel Buddy Project started by PLC Sydney. A few days ago, they arrived here at Rowandale School. We're posting on their blog HERE (and you can find their blog on the sidebar), but I've copied the posts to our blog as well...

A few days ago, Hazelnut and Luna arrived in New Zealand and decided to visit us here at Rowandale School. They looked exhausted when they came to my door. It must have taken them ages to get all the way from Faraday School in England. They brought a book with them to tell us all about London.

All of the children were very excited to meet our new friends. We made sure that we sat and listened very carefully when they read their story to us.

Later, it was our day to take care of some of the animals that live at our school so we decided to bring the two of them to help us with our work. Our pigs are named Hettie and Percy (but our chickens don't have any names).

We're looking forward to having our two new friends visit us this week. It's Maori Language Week, so hopefully they will go to their next school knowing some new words!

Learning About Animals

Mrs Lee came to teach us last week and she showed us some cool things we can do with Google Slides and You Tube. First, we had to pick an animal with our group and find a video about it on the You Tube Channel, All Things Animal TV. Mrs Lee showed us how to embed the video into a Google Slide, so that we could have it in our presentation. Then we wrote some facts that we found out about the animals. Newsletter

Here is the newsletter that was sent home today. I'm working on a way to have these all available for download somewhere on this blog, so watch this space (or the space to the right of this space).

I just want to comment on a few things in the newsletter:

1) Congratulations to both Trey and Mu for coming to school EVERY DAY of Term One. Amazing!

2) Don't forget Park and Walk Day on Monday. Meet at the church or the park and walk with a huge group of people (and also get some Hot Chocolate when you arrive at school).

3) If you got the paper copy of the newsletter, don't forget to fill in the slip at the back and return it to school. Your child(ren) could win a prize!

Making Fourteen AND Fifteen

This week some of our groups were able to make Pic Collages showing all the ways we can make both 14 and 15! They had to be very clever and work together by taking different jobs. Well done. Have a look at all of our work:

Unscrambling a Recount

This week Mr Davidson found a recount that was all mixed up. He needed our help to put it back together. We worked in groups to cut all the sentences up and put them in order. Wow! We're getting so good at finding how to make numbers. Today the Flamingos and Finches made eight. Have a look at the wonderful work they did:

Computer Programming

Last week we started learning about computer programming. We all started a course on the chromebooks using a wonderful website called Code.org. We did a little bit of practice since then and had another go today. It was really fun because we got to do some problems with Angry Birds.

Making 7 (Part II)

Weekly Certificate and Assembly

Mr Davidson had a very busy week and forgot to put up a lot of stuff on our blog. He's trying to catch up.  Here is this week's certificate. Great work Trey!

Te Kupu o te Wiki

This week's word is Te Waipounamu . Do you know what that means? If you're the first Meerkat to comment with the correct answer will get 5 house points. Every other Meerkat who comments will get 2 house points. Good luck!

Sorting Cars

This morning the Marvellous Meerkats made graphs of cars, vans and trucks.

First Mr Davidson put us into groups of three people each.

Next we cut out the cars and sorted them into groups. We all did different groups. Some people sorted the cars by colour. Other groups sorted the cars by size or patterns.

Then we glued the groups onto a big paper.

Finally we showed our graphs to the whole class.

It was hard but it was fun. We had to work together as a team.
