Musical Meerkats

Today the Marvellous Meerkats had a musical performance in the hall. All of the IAs and High Flyers and lots of parents were watching us.

A few weeks ago, we started practicing. We had to keep trying and trying.

Our performance started with Dash. Dash played his xylophone in front of the whole school. They loved hearing and watching him play. Azlyn helped Dash out because Dash was scared.

Then J-Lynn started to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the rest of us sang along. We used a special thing called a Makey Makey that turned Bradley, George, Natalia, Alex, Paris and Sunday into a musical instrument. All J-Lynn had to do was touch them on their hands.

Next Dakshesh played the Alphabet Song and Ryley played a special song Mr Davidson wrote. They both used the same instrument made out of the children.

When we were performing, we made mistakes but we continued. Mr Davidson didn't even help us one bit. He took this video:

We want to do this in front of the whole school again because we had so much fun. Some of us got scared, but we still tried our best and were very brave.

Duffy Books!

This morning the whole school went to an assembly in the hall. A special guest came to talk to us. He was a wrestler, an artist and he writes comic books. He was pretending to be a superhero and he had a mask.

We also got our Duffy Books. We each got 2 very good books that we are going to read at home. Here is how we decorated our box:

It is a polar bear inside of an igloo. Check out our blogs to see the books that we got!

Special Guest at Rowandale

Today Rowandale has a special guest. Our teacher (who is Canadian) did not know who this person was (he has heard this person's name, though). One of the students in our class got to ask this person a question and then he got to take a picture with the person.

Who can tell me who this famous person is, here with Ryley? (It's not often you get to meet someone like this - other than your teacher, that is -  so keep this picture saved, Ryley). There might be some house points for the person who can spell his name correctly...

Our Class Assembly

This week was our class assembly. We were given the job of showing the school one of our values: Consistency, so we made a short video to tell everyone about it. We did some amazing acting and added some cool stop motion effects (and some even cooler effects on the short introduction videos that we had at the assembly). A couple students got awards today, but Mr Davidson forgot to take a picture. He'll sort that out next week so as to not ruin the surprise. Have a look at our video:

Sustainable Coastlines

Today the whole school went to the hall and we learned what happens when rubbish goes to the sea. A man named Ryley (a different Ryley from the one in our class).

First Ryley showed us pictures of rubbish at the beach. We saw plastic bags, drink bottles, gloves, lolly wrappers and sticks.

Then we saw the pictures of a dead bird and a turtle. The bird had lots of rubbish in his belly and the turtle had small plastic ring around him. His shell was squished in the middle.

Next Ryley told us that we could help thes sea creatures by picking up rubbish. Even the land creatures can eat the rubbish. He told us the rubbish gets to the sea through the drain.

So, when we went back to class, we picked up rubbish. We even looked in the drains.

We thought the rubbish was yucky. Seeing the sea creatures made us feel sad and sick because rubbish isn't food.

ANZAC Day Ceremony

Today the wonderful year 6 children at Rowandale School planned an ANZAC Day ceremony for the entire school (which you may have read about in our Quality Work post). It was a very nice ceremony and it was very obvious that the children and teachers put a lot of effort into it. But don't take my word for it. Have a look at the video that Paris took of it:

Weekly Assembly and Certificates

Because of the holidays and the short week, we had our assembly early. Paris received the certificate for our class because she has been an amazing helped all week, making sure that the room is always tidy. Phoenix also had his name picked out for a Duffy Award. He was on the Superstar Rainbow in the last week and had his name in the draw.  Great work to both of you, and enjoy the book Phoenix!

Weekly Certificate and Assembly

This week George received our class's certificate. On Monday when we got our Duffy Books, he came up with a clever way to open the box without destroying the beautiful decorating on it when his teacher couldn't figure it out (it was opening it from the bottom). Great work George!

William also had his name drawn out of the box for bringing his newsletter slip back. He won a free (child) admission to the Zirca Circus. I hope you enjoy it!

Finally, I also spotted Ngeru and Sunday sitting sensibly like meerkats and paying attention to the assembly. What amazing role models!

Duffy Books!

Today was our first Duffy Books Assembly. We had a special guest come in to talk to us and give us our books. Her name was Jacqui Knight and she talked about what a passion is. She also asked if we could figure out what the word: "doggerel" meant? (Can you? 10 house points if you post the meaning and you're a Meerkat)

Afterwards we went back to class and opened up our box of books. Everyone got two books that they can take home and keep forever! Have you been enjoying your books at home already?

Watch the video of her talk below.

Weekly Certificate and Assembly

Mr Davidson had a very busy week and forgot to put up a lot of stuff on our blog. He's trying to catch up.  Here is this week's certificate. Great work Trey!

Also, two Meerkats were chosen to pick a Duffy Book today. William and Alex were put into a draw for the books because they were Caught Being Awesome by getting to the Superstar Rainbow. Well done boys! I hope you enjoy those books at home!
