Global Math Task Twitter Challenge - Week 1

Today we participated in the Global Math Task Twitter Challenge  (GMTTC). The problem we had was this one:

Here are some of the answers that we came up with. We used lots of different materials to solve this and got lots and lots of answers.

Basic Fact Families Part 1

Recently, we used a Stop Motion app on the iPads to make some videos showing some basic fact families. Have a look at some of the videos we made (More to come soon):

Making Eighteen

We're almost finished our teen numbers. Today the Parrots and Toucans made the number 18 with lots of materials. Here's their work:

Making Seventeen

Slowly but surely we're getting higher and higher with our teen numbers. Here are the Pic Collages we made for 17. How many more teen numbers do we have to go?

Making Sixteen

We are moving right along with our teen numbers. Today we got up to 16. Have a look at all the different materials we can use to make 16.

Making Fourteen AND Fifteen

This week some of our groups were able to make Pic Collages showing all the ways we can make both 14 and 15! They had to be very clever and work together by taking different jobs. Well done. Have a look at all of our work:

Making Thirteen (Part II)

Making Thirteen (Part I)

This week we continued making our teen numbers. We're up to 13 now. See all the different ways we made the number. We are getting better at it. We started working as a team and used lots of materials.

This week we started looking at the different materials we could use to show numbers. Mr Davidson made 11 for us and we tried twelve this week. Have a look at our tries:

Making Ten (Part II)

Here are the final Pic Collages of making the numbers up to 10. With everything we do, we're always trying to make them better. We've used the number words as well (Silly Mr Davidson, we should have been doing that all along) as the numbers. Have a look:

Making Ten (Part I)

We started making our last number with the beans today (don't worry, we're going to do some more fun stuff next term with some numbers that are a bit bigger). Mr Davidson was at a meeting when we started but we were so clever and sensible that we were able to tell Mrs Johnson what we had to do and we got on with it straight away. Mr Davidson said that he was very pleased with us for that.

Making Eight (Part I)

Today the Parrots and Toucans continued our work on making numbers. We made eight in as many ways as we could. After practicing with six and seven, we're really getting the hang of it now. Have a look at all the amazing ways we could make eight. We worked together and we even shared between groups!

Making 7 (Part I)

Today we worked in groups to see how many different ways we could make the number 7. Each group made a Pic Collage. Have a look at what we did. I wonder if the other groups will see this tonight and be ready to do the same thing tomorrow? Can you think of any ways that we missed?
