Weekly Certificate and Assembly

This week George received our class's certificate. On Monday when we got our Duffy Books, he came up with a clever way to open the box without destroying the beautiful decorating on it when his teacher couldn't figure it out (it was opening it from the bottom). Great work George!

William also had his name drawn out of the box for bringing his newsletter slip back. He won a free (child) admission to the Zirca Circus. I hope you enjoy it!

Finally, I also spotted Ngeru and Sunday sitting sensibly like meerkats and paying attention to the assembly. What amazing role models!

Swimming!

We are so lucky that it's still warm in March for us to go swimming. It was a beautiful and sunny day today. We took some videos of us in the pool (Thanks Miss Lines!). We were even allowed to take some turns jumping into the pool. We waited very patiently.  Have a look at our videos from today:

Making Eight (Part II)

Wow! We're getting so good at finding how to make numbers. Today the Flamingos and Finches made eight. Have a look at the wonderful work they did:

Writing Publishing

Last week some of the Gorillas and Orangutans had some time to publish their writing from earlier in the term. They each picked a piece of writing and typed it up on Google Docs using the Chromebooks. They added a picture as well. Mr Davidson printed them out and we're going to put them up on the wall. Have a look at our work:

Making Eight (Part I)

Today the Parrots and Toucans continued our work on making numbers. We made eight in as many ways as we could. After practicing with six and seven, we're really getting the hang of it now. Have a look at all the amazing ways we could make eight. We worked together and we even shared between groups!

Stop Motion Videos

Today, Mr Davidson showed us how to use an app on the iPad to make Stop Motion Videos. It was really easy. You just had to make sure the camera didn't move. You take a toy and press the picture button. Then you move the toy a little bit and take another picture. You keep doing this over and over and then you get a movie. Have a look at some pictures of us doing it and some of our creations today. I can't wait to see what we'll come up with when we keep practicing this.

Te Kupu o te Wiki

This week's word is ukerere . Do you know what that means? If you're the first Meerkat to comment with the correct answer will get 5 house points. Every other Meerkat who comments will get 2 house points. Good luck!

Computer Programming

Last week we started learning about computer programming. We all started a course on the chromebooks using a wonderful website called Code.org. We did a little bit of practice since then and had another go today. It was really fun because we got to do some problems with Angry Birds.

If you want to try this at home, follow the link HERE. You will need to get your secret word from Mr Davidson (send him a message from THIS page) if you want to sign in.

Making 7 (Part II)

Here is the second part of our lesson on making seven. See all the new ways we made it? We know that you don't just have to make two groups. Can you think of any that we missed?

Tuesday Morning Bar Graph

Duffy Books!

Today was our first Duffy Books Assembly. We had a special guest come in to talk to us and give us our books. Her name was Jacqui Knight and she talked about what a passion is. She also asked if we could figure out what the word: "doggerel" meant? (Can you? 10 house points if you post the meaning and you're a Meerkat)

Afterwards we went back to class and opened up our box of books. Everyone got two books that they can take home and keep forever! Have you been enjoying your books at home already?

Watch the video of her talk below.

Making Words With Magnetic Letters

Today some of the students in class were making words with magnetic letters. They decided to make a sentence together. This is what they started with. Can you guess what they were going to write next?

Cutting and Pasting a House

Last week Keahi worked with Huria to make a house. He carefully cut all the pieces out and glued them together. He even learned the words for the parts of the house. Have a look at the fantastic work he did!

Weekly Certificate and Assembly

Mr Davidson had a very busy week and forgot to put up a lot of stuff on our blog. He's trying to catch up.  Here is this week's certificate. Great work Trey!

Making 7 (Part I)

Today we worked in groups to see how many different ways we could make the number 7. Each group made a Pic Collage. Have a look at what we did. I wonder if the other groups will see this tonight and be ready to do the same thing tomorrow? Can you think of any ways that we missed?
