Thank You For the Delicious Pizza!

Today we were given a free pizza lunch because we brought in lots and lots of our forms. It was delicious. We got to eat pepperoni, Hawaiian, ham & cheese, and cheese pizza.

Thank you to everyone who paid, ordered and delivered it to our classroom! Have a look at us enjoying our yummy lunch.

Our Trip to MOTAT

Yesterday the Marvellous Meerkats went to MOTAT to explore and learn about flight.

First we went to look at the exhibits. We got to play around in a room full of fun things. We also got to learn about some video games from New Zealand.

Then we took a train to the second part of MOTAT. We saw lots of big airplanes in a massive room.

Later, we got to learn about flight from Abby. We did lots of fun activities. Flight has four forces: Lift, Drag, Thrust and Weight.

We had lots of fun at MOTAT. I can't wait to go back!

Goodbye Hazelnut and Lunar!

Hazelnut and Lunar had a great time with us, but it was time for them to move on to the next school. Before they left, they got to meet some of the other staff at Rowandale:

With Mr Vasau

With Mrs Tofilau

They also got to see a powhiri for our new teachers. Do you know what a powhiri is?

They are now on there way to Denmark. Here is a map of everywhere they've been and the next school they're going to. Can you name all of the places they've been to so far? They have travelled quite a long way.

We wish them luck on their journey. Thanks for visiting us!

Then we got to see what other students were doing in other schools. we learned how to make a blog and how to make a Google site (more on those later, or if you're clever, you'll see what we made). We had lots of fun and learned lots.  Here is the presentation that we made:

Maori Language Week: Challenge #1

This week is Maori Language Week! Our first challenge was to learn how to say hello. But it's not as easy as you'd think. You have to say different things, depending on how many people you are talking to. We've made three ThingLinks to show you what to say, depending on how many people you are talking to (hint, click on the red bits to see them talk):

If you're talking to 1 Person:

If you're talking to 2 People

If you're talking to 3 or more People:

Ordering by Long and Short

On Wednesday the Marvellous Meerkats learned about long and short.

First we each looked for one thing that was long and one thing that was short.

Next we got into our groups.

Then we put the shortest one down and the longest one down. They have to start at the same spot.

Have a look at the pictures we took:

Quality Writing

Learning About Animals

Mrs Lee came to teach us last week and she showed us some cool things we can do with Google Slides and You Tube. First, we had to pick an animal with our group and find a video about it on the You Tube Channel, All Things Animal TV. Mrs Lee showed us how to embed the video into a Google Slide, so that we could have it in our presentation. Then we wrote some facts that we found out about the animals. Have a look at some of the slides we made:

Making a Story

Today in writing Mr Davidson gave us some pictures from a story that we haven't read. We had to work in teams to put them in order (it didn't have to be the right order, it just had to make sense). Then we came up with a story for the pictures. At the end of the lesson we started writing our stories on the chromebooks. We haven't finished them yet, but check back later this week to see what we've written.

Healthy and Unhealthy

This afternoon we talked about healthy and unhealthy things. We had to sort lots of pictures into two groups: healthy and unhealthy. We had to work together to cut, sort and glue. Do you agree with the sorting?

Making Sixteen

We are moving right along with our teen numbers. Today we got up to 16. Have a look at all the different materials we can use to make 16.
